My mini lop is just over 3 months old and is a cashmere. I don’t know if that’s a legitimate sub-breed or if someone crossed a lop with an angora a couple of generations back and sold them as cashmeres (I’ve heard them referred to as “plush”)

Anyway so his fur is long and poofy, and very very soft, almost like fleece. But in a few places where his fur had to be cut it’s growing back as a mix of the soft fleecy fur and the normal rabbit fur, very similar to the fur on my sister-in-law’s mini lop, except longer.

Is anyone on here familiar with the longer-haired breeds of rabbit that can tell me if that’s normal? Is it just him losing his baby fur or is it because he’s some kind of mix? Will he end up like a regular bunny?

I’ll try and get a picture that shows his fur changing.

Oh and he started off a light fawn/orange colour, but seems to be going white slowly. Is that normal?

Based in his age I would guess that this is his adult coat coming in and no need for concern, but maybe someone with long haired breeds can help more.

Yep, it could be his adult coat starting to come in. Wooly was all soft when he was a baby, then his adult coat came in. It is wire-like with long “guard” hairs mixed in. This was actually intentional on the breeding end because the guard hairs make the coat easier to maintain. Wooly is a Jersey Wooly by the way. I’m not sure how your bunny is, I’m not familiar with cashmere. I would think it would be similar though.

Interesting, I just looked it up. Cashmere lops are the result of a mutation and not crossbreeding. There isn’t supposed to be a waviness to the coat, but there is an undercoat and a topcoat. The topcoat consists of guard hairs that are heavier and longer.

My Piglet is a french angora and he is a fluff ball although it was not obvious when he was a kit (rescued as a baby) his OOPS girls are crossed with my bun Pepper who is a silver marten. Blossom has fur just like Piglet even tough her coat was short and fluffy as a kit.. The others have coats of varying lengths and colours. French Angora’s always have a thick base coat with long floof over the top (it’s a bugger to groom so I get Piglet shaved) It does sound like your bun is coming into his adult coat.
