Hey everyone! I have never posted but when walking home i saw a little rabbit and she looked lost so i went over and picked her up and brought her home. She looks like a dutch/dutch mix. She is super sweet but seems scared. I have a year old neutured holland lop who lives freerange in my room, i have a 4×2 cage where my guinea pigs used to live and i have a x-pen which my bunny has his litterbox, bed, food ect. I may be able to keep her in a spare room. So does anyone have any suggestions about what to do with her and also where to keep her. Should i let the two see each other. I have bonded rabbits before but i don’t know becuase i found her. She was defintaly a pet at some time. Thank you!

          Yay for you, saving her!

I would call your local animal shelter, to make sure someone hasn’t lost a bunny. If you do decide to keep it, I also wouldn’t let your bunny and this found bunny near each other at all until the found bunny has a clean bill of health from a vet and, possibly, fixed. The spare room sounds great for now.

I got a bunny friend for my little guy who looked very healthy but developed symptoms of something after a few weeks. I’m now going to have to treat both my original bunny and the new little guy with antibiotic shots. Not fun at all.

Yay indeed for you picking her up and bringing her home!

Definitely like Dobby said keep them separated and call the local shelters. If she was someone’s pet at one time it could be that they just let her go because she was sick and they couldn’t care for her and you don’t want to expose your bunny to anything nasty. If you’re interacting between the two washing your hands after would be really good too. Will eliminate smell too so your bun doesn’t think you’re cheating on him.

The cage from your guinea pigs wouldn’t be a bad place to keep her while you weren’t home or sleeping while you’re trying to find out if someone lost her. When you’re home or awake you can let her out for exercise and asses her destruction tendencies to see if she can be trusted while unsupervised too. then if you can’t find the owner and you do decide to keep her you at least know some of her habits too!

I agree, try find out if she’s a lost pet. Certainly sounds like it if she let you pick her up.

If you advertise a Found rabbit, keep descriptions basic (i.e. gender & location found) but have responders describe its looks. That way you’re less likely to deal with anyone trying to pick up a free rabbit.

It’s not uncommon where I live for people to just let their rabbits go one day and not bother to get them back, knowing that someone will see them hopping around and take them in. Alternatively she may be a lost pet, I agree with Jerseygirl that you should have responders describe her to you as there have been some nasty goings on recently with people wanting free rabbits for certain ‘sports’. Vile!
Well done for picking the little girl up, even if she IS someone’s lost pet she could have been hurt by foxes, cats, dogs or cars x

Moxie, we ask that members not bump up threads older than a month or two. I guess this thread is right at the two month mark, so I’m not going to lock this, but in the future, just something to be aware of.

This thread was started by a new member who never returned, so it is unlikely we will get an update.

Hi! I had her for about a week and she was such a sweetie. Then once she had settled in, i brought her to my vet and there was a reported rabbit case that matched her! So she got returned to her original owner. Apparently the owners cousin was over and brought the rabbit outside and forgot about it and she hopped away. I am just glad i could scoop her up before anything bad happened to her. Thanks for all your help!
