I posted a cage cleaning video in the lounge, where I showed the fur our buns are shedding…. but yesterday! Wow, I cleaned the cage and found a MOUNTAIN of fur in there. First thought was: “Oh no! Fake pregnancy!” But luckily, no. Just going through a terrible molt. This is the first time I see this happening to our bunnies. Or actually, one of them. The other one is shedding a lot, yes, but the other is having patches that dont have much fur left! I plucked Malla, the bunny, a little yesterday and then groomed her with a comb that has this rubber thing to gently pull out fur. Someone here posted a message saying something like “it’s easy to get all OCD over the fur tuffs” and boy, that was me yesterday, haha. I was afraid to pull the fur too much though, I didn’t want to scare her or hurt her as I never did this before. But, here are some pics:

Above the white tail there is a spot almost bald:

The dark lines are actually places with very little fur, not black fur color:

This is just a small ball of fur I got only by plucking:

And here’s the little scared one (she was ok, just like “ok, I’ll tolerate this” until my husband came too close to take the pic – she tried to climb up and hide under my chin <3 )

Oh yes. I get OBSESSED about those tufts. My buns hate me when I’m in that mode. Lol

Malla looks like she has dense soft fur. She’s same colour as my Rumball and his fur is thick.

I’m OCD about it too! But I get so worried when I pluck out the tufts and a little piece of dead skin comes with it too! Eeeeep! D:

My dad was the one who’d “help” pluck the tufts off of my first bun. He’d take her to the back yard and groom her. Afterwards it’d look like like a small snow storm had come through, since she had white fur.

Welcome to the world of bunnies! Mine are both finishing off a big shed and it’s amazing how much fur comes out of them.

jerseygirl: Yes, she has dense soft fur. So dense actually, that finding the skin is only possible near her neck, where she doesn’t have really “fur” but “hair”… I love their fur though, it even smells so nice

bunnygirl: Yikes, I’m glad I didn’t get any dead skin with it, I was worried enough as it was!

justwildbeat: I wish I could do it outside, since cleaning the fur off the floor is a nightmare, haha.

Elrohwen: Tell me about it! My husband is a clean freak, and the thing he hates the most is hair (fur or even human hair) when it is stuck someplace it shouldn’t be. I’m the one who cleans the drains in our house, because my husband feels like vomiting just seeing the dirt

                    I know!
When non-rabbit people say rabbits smell, I have to refrain from saying “Noooo! They smell like sweetness and light! Hay and sunshine! Lollipops and rainbows!” etc etc

Mine don’t have the tufts like that, luckily. Stickers is a rex and her shedding is so light, I hardly notice (until I go to clean their blankies and have to bang them out on the porch to get the fur out). And Powder just sheds 24/7. I can see getting OCD about plucking them out though. lol
