Well my friends, for months now I have been calling my cute split-faced bun a girl, turns out she is a he. Although in other spieces calico is often reserved for the females, it turns out that buns are excluded from this. No wonder he never answered to good girl and bad girl. Is there anything that I should change now that I know he is a boy? He seems to be health and the vet seemed pleased with his overall demeanor. Also, when is the best time to get this little booger fixed?

Have his testicles descended? This usually happens at around 3 or 4 months of age. So the neuter could be performed then.

Rabbits are often sexed incorrectly, so you aren’t the first person to have “gender confusion”.

Yup, he has developed his man parts completely. Is it critical to get them fixed if they are inside only buns?

Health-wise, neutering isn’t as essential for males as spaying is for females. Behavior-wise, getting him neutered will help with hormonal behaviors that he may not be displaying quite yet.

He hasn’t been acting aggressive as of yet, but I hear that sometimes male rabbits can get that way. He does like to nibble at me if he doesn’t want to be held anymore, but other than that he is a great rabbit.

Haha! Just wait until he starts spraying everything and completely losing his litter habits because he’s too busy marking his territory. =p

How old is he now? Do you know for sure?

I am not sure how old he is. I am guessing somewhere between 4 and 6 months. I got him from the fair so I am really not sure how old he was when I got him.

We didn’t get Porky neutered, since he never developed any of those issues.  It really varies from bunny to bunny.  We had plans to if he ever started having issues, but he didn’t.

One of the main things to keep in mind is if you ever want to get him a friend.  Knowing we planned to keep Porky a bachelor had a lot to do with our decision not to neuter him.

I hope he doesn’t get too hormonal because we don’t have any vets that will fix rabbits in the area. The closest one is in Nashville, Tn.

Talk to a shelter. They may have a vet that can.

Ha well, I think everyone’s had that happen at least once with a pet!

As for to neuter or not to neuter that’s almost just a matter of preference. At 2 1/2 months my little bun was scattering poop everywhere, running around me while grunting and humping my poor sister-in-law’s baby bunny! So we got him done as soon as our vet would allow. But some bunnies never have this much of a behaviour change, it really does vary.

My little bun never showed any signs of maturing, he wasn’t territorial, he didn’t grunt or bite and he never mounted or pee’d anywhere, he was just gorgeous, I have had him neutered (so he can get a bunwife) and although he didn’t show any mature signs, his personality has changed a little, he’s a lot more relaxed which is lovely. x

My guy isn’t any different from before I got him neutered and now. I did it more so issues didn’t develop and he’d stay healthy, and to have better litter habits as an adult too. There is a chance nothing will change but I didn’t like the odds since my rabbit has been a sweet heart. I know of rabbits who were really sweet and once they matured they went crazy.

Look for rescues, mostly bun ones, they may be able to find a vet or help you out some way and it might even be cheaper than your actual vet fixing them. My rabbit was done for 100 through a shelter because my vet was asking for 160-200.
