Hey guys! Belle is being spayed in a week!! Im nervous already, I’m such a baby haha So once she has been done how longish usually until the stitches are healed and she’s feeling more like herself? Her and Barney were playing together yesterday and snuggling and grooming sooo much, I cant wait until she’s healed and they can live together full time!!

Once she has been done, how long until I can put her and Barney together? I have heard loads of contradicting answers on that

        Thanks!!

        Anna, Barney & Belle x

Well you can start right away if you like. Maybe just give it a few days for her to heal and the stitches to heal. I see no reason if they are getting along to not try right away…you get conflicting answers because each situation is different.

Ok, brilliant thanks! I’ll see how she is in herself, when she starts being crazy and rampaging around her cage to be let out as usual I will take that as a sign that she’s feeling better I can only pray that she is a good litter trained little girl once she has been done, because I cant cope with any more accidents on my carpet! Doubt my landlord will be impressed either x

Hello Anna! My bunny Shadow will be spayed soon, and I asked my vet how long after the procedure she could get back in the pen with her (boy) friends (already neutered). He told me that the stitches are dissolvable and the incision should be more or less healed within one week. She should be able to be reunited with her bunny buddies then, or sooner if they do not play aggressively. He told me that she should not get wet- (dew on grass in the morning….) for one week either. I hope that helps! Good luck!

Oh- she should be kept apart for at least 24 hours after surgery so you can monitor her food and water intake, as well as watch for poops. Once she is eating and drinking and peeing and pooping, she should be ready to go.

My Baxter loves to chase Boo. and nip him in the butt….so we separated Boo for a couple days after his procedure. But if Barney is sweet to Belle, you may not need to separate.

Thanks so much for the info everyone! Irina I hope Shadow’s spay goes well, Belle is very bouncy and excitable despite being disabled so hopefully she’ll bounce back after her surgery and thanks Baxter and Boo’s mom, I’ll keep an eye and see what happens and how she recovers I want them bonded asap after surgery just because they’re so loving and affectionate already! x

A couple things to keep in mind… Bunnies sometimes smell “different” after undergoing surgery/coming back from the vets… So Barney may notice the change and not take so kindly to her. Also, removing the uterus and ovaries can cause a post-spay “hormone surge” that can last up to a month. That might cause her to get aggressive towards him, even if she has never shown any in the past.

WILL this happen? Who knows… But it is a possibility. So just something to be aware of. Hopefully nothing changes and they can be reintroduced easily.

I do recommend that you be cautious, and try to give her at least 3 full days of quiet, stress free time to recover, a week would be even better. And if there is any chasing or humping or aggression (from either of them) postpone for another week or two before trying again.
