My one year old female mini lop always comes up to me and kind of rams my hand or leg when I go to feed or pet her or even just go in her pen. She sometimes nips me too. What does this mean? And how do I fix it? (by the way, I am the same person who posted about there being something under my buns skin but I forgot my username -_-)

She is pushing you with her head? Or is she taking a swipe and acting like she is going to bite you? Pushing with her head would indicate she wants your attention or she wants you to move out of the way. Leopold does this all the time. He nudges my hand out of the way when he wants his food or he nudges my hand because he thinks he needs to be petted (and not Wooly). Swiping and acting like she is going to bite, on the other hand, is aggression. She is saying stay out of my space, this is my house. This is especially true if she does it when you are entering her cage with her in it. This is pretty common behavior, particularly with girl bunnies. Some people have to do a switch-a-roo with the food bowl to avoid being “attacked”.

She kind of pushes then rubs her mouth on me then sometimes she nips, but she usually just runs away. She has a large x pen and hutch in for her cage, and is happy when we come in because she usually gets fed or let out to play.

She pushes with her forehead then slide down and then does the weird mouth rub thing.

Ahhh, my boy Fleury does this exact motion when we play with him. My boyfriend and I have begun calling it “head games”. He’ll push on our hand or arm with his head and slide up his mouth and rub and very lightly nip but never hard. He’s never done it in any aggressive way so I think she’s meaning to play with you… although none of my others have done this, just him so I’m not sure that it’s common.

If she is hurting when she nips or you dislike the behavior – when she nips shriek really loud. Typically buns will stop if they believe they are hurting you when they nip so that may help your problem if you’re not okay with her doing this.

tanlover14 – my bun does it too! And when he nips, you can barely feel it, and he’ll sort of push my hand near his mouth. It’s soo cute!

Thanks guys!! I’m glad it doesn’t mean anything bad!! I’ve only been a rabbit owner for a few months and I had never read about any buns doing this.

Bindi does that to me all the time. If we are cuddling and I stop petting him, I get a “doot doot”. He always does it in twos. “Hey, Mom, don’t stop petting me, I’m still here.” It feels so funny because his face is so flat.
