My 3 month old bunnies, Butterscotch and Tofu, were just fixed yesterday. Tofu bounced back wonderfully and has been eating and playing since coming home in the afternoon. Unfortunately, Butterscotch is not. He is not eating or drinking and is not moving around much. At first I thought he was just still sleepy from the anesthesia, but by this morning he was no better. I have brought him back to the vet (rabbit savvy), and they are keeping him today to try to feed him a mixture if pellets and water. He says it is post operative ileum or gastric stasis and is one of the potential complications of surgery. He told me that after feeding with a syringe for a day or two, he should be fine. Had anybody dealt with this?

It is possible that this can happen – hopefully he will recover soon. Usually neuters are much easier than spays but some rabbits can be more sensitive.

          Vibes to Butterscotch.

Buns are very sensitive to pain. Boys usually bounce back very easily, but my male did stop drinking for several days due to his neuter. I had to dropper water into his mouth to keep him hydrated. Some buns are just more sensitive than others and it can cause their bodies to shut down. Hopefully the vet will have him back to normal soon.
