I am bringing my 3 month old bunnies to the vet for the first time today. Should I line the pet carriers with a towel, or hay? I thought hay would give them something to eat while we are gone (good), but will also encourage them to pee in the carrier (bad). Any suggestions?

I always put in a soft towel or blankie and add a handful of hay for travelling snacks… Had a playdate away for my foster bun recently so I took a lunch box snack of kale and a few pellets too… He was quite happy to have a nosh whilst travelling and didn’t mind sharing his snack pack during the playdate. (Some naughty piggies got into his travel case whilst he was playing with the other buns and ate his pellets.)

I put a litter-box in the carrier. I have rather smallish litter-boxes that fits in my carrier. If you’ve a bigger litter-box, try to find sth that will fit and could work as a temporary travel-litter-box. My bunnies always pee in the carrier.

I put in hay and sth juicy like a piece of carrot or kale, because I can’t put in a water-bowl.

            Good luck at the vet!

I always put a blanket in the carrier and bring an extra blanket in a plastic bag in the car. It’s good to have a second to replace a peed on blanket. You don’t want bun to have to sit in pee for the ride home. And you can use the plastic bag to put the tinkled-on blanket in.

Paper towels, in case he can’t hold it till we get home to the litter box (he does usually hold it though,) and a large handful of parsley or similar green.
