During the last 3 weeks a problem has come up with my 10 year old rabbit. Almost everytime we’re about to give him food he falls over. He gets so excited that he runs really fast around the cage or tries to jump out of it and that’s when it happens. He doesn’t fall over otherwise and he still doesn’t seem to have no problem with jumping up on tall things (like the bed).

Should we take him to the vet or is it just a something that’s happening because he’s getting old?

if he’s standing up on his hind legs in excitement and then falling over, its probably just arthritis and diminished coordination.
if he starts keeping weight off the leg during normal walking, then its causing him pain.
either way it wont hurt to get a checkup and mention it to the vet. maybe he can give you a prescription of metacam for days when the leg is bothering him.

It’s usually when he’s on his hind legs, i haven’t seen him having any problems walking normally. I’ll talk to my mother about calling the vet.

Mobility definitely can diminish with older bunnies. But it’s always a good idea to know what’s really going on so that any discomfort or issues can be addressed and eased if possible.
