When I first got Pip he had a some dirty, slighly matted fur above his tail.  I cleaned it up a bit by brushing it out and using some corn starch.  I asssumed that now that Pip has moved indoors and has his litter regularly cleaned, it wouldn’t be an issue anymore.

Well today I noticed that the fur above his tail is again dirty.  It looks like it is stained with his urine.  (He typically has very red urine so the stain is easily seen.)  I am not sure why or how this happened, since it’s above his tail.  I also just cleaned out his litter this afternoon and it appeared between the cleaning of the litter and this evening.  I can’t quite figure out how he could be sitting in his litter to make this happen.

Does anyone else’s rabbit have this type of problem?

He might pee up against the side of his litter box and then back into it while it’s still wet?

Is he by himself? Could someone be peeing on him? That happened with Leopold. He wouldn’t get out of the litter box, so Wooly hopped in, turned until his rear was practically on Leopold, and let it go.

He is all by himself. And he doesn’t seem to back up against the edge of the litter. I checked the sides of it and didn’t see anything. But thanks for the ideas.

He seemed to know I wanted to watch him use his litter tonight so didn’t use it for the hour or so I was sitting with him. (I’m dividing my time between him and Dobby until he can be neutered. He needs to gain some weight before that can happen.)

LBJ10 – That is a very funny story, by the way. Although maybe not as funny if you had to clean Leopold after the fact.
