Hello. Im new here I was wondering if it’s okay to make an indoor dirt area for my buns? I’m not sure if it’s okay or not and would like some advise before I do anything. If it is okay, what kind of soil do I use? Would a large bin be ok to hold the soil? I am fine with cleaning up after all the digging and flinging im just looking for some ideas for them.

        Thank you in advance

We’ve had threads about this before and I think the general consensus was that it’s not a good idea. Have you considering using shredded paper instead for a diggy box?

Yes, sand can cause eye irritation and impaction – paper definitely would be better and really easier for you to clean too.

            Is your rabbit a digger?

Thank you for the replies. Yes, they like to dig in their bedding so I thought they’d like soil. I suppose shredded paper would be a lot of fun as well. I will go ahead about do that.

              Thank you

I’ve mulled this idea over myself, I just can’t see how the rabbits would use it to dig and not potty in. Anyone with a dig box care to share their experience?

Yes I will share my experience Troller XD

When I just got Muffin, I felt I was doing well, he had lots of cardboard boxes and toys and was litter trained, but I felt he needed more. He LOVED to dig in his towels and roll all over them so I thought he would LOVE a digging box! I bought some aspen wood shavings (Don’t ever use pine or cedar) and filled a pizza box with them and let him dig. I was so happy when he immediately ran up to it and sat in the box. But he didn’t dig! He hopped out and a nice round orange stain was on the shavings…. Now he won’t use anything but the cardboard box so now my family has to eat LOTS of Pizza to supply him with litter boxes.

We are however trying to get a metal pan of the same dimensions (If we line the edge with cardboard he will never notice!)
