Cookie seems to be scratching his ears and the top of his head a lot more latey. I am worried he caught mites. I have been checking his fur(especially the back of his neck) for any white flakes or bald spots, and have found none. Could it just be that he wants to bathe himself more often since it is summer or what!? Also what are scabs in your rabbit’s fur.

I’m pretty sure you won’t be able to see mites unless it’s under a microscope – the vet basically takes a scraping of the skin and places it on the microscope to check for mites since they are so small. Not sure why he is scratching more though…sometimes it’s just not possible to know why a rabbit does what a rabbit does.

Thanks for replying. I saw a video on rabbit mites and u could see white flakes on the rabbit that people think is dandruff? Sorry, I don’t know much on mites and fleas. So is this not at the point where I have to take Cookie to the vet? I took Cookie to the vet 4 times in 4 months, and each time he was perfectly healthy. I really don’t want to have to go again. One thing that really made me worried was when he was eating his pellets this morning, and he took a break to scratch his ear for a second, then finished his pellets.

Totally understand. I would say that putting a dose of Revolution certainly would not hurt if you are concerned about mites or fleas. Just have your vet give you the recommended dosage – you can just go into the vet’s office and they should be able to sell it to you if you are currently a client.

                thanks,
I forgot to tell you that two weeks ago I got the revolution and he seems to be better. On Wednesday I have to put it on him again in case the mites layed eggs.

                       Hi,

When I gave Cookie the revolution, after a couple of days I noticed that his scratching got a lot better. But right after, it got bad again. What do I do?

So, it’s been almost a month since his treatment? And he’s still scratching?

Basically, after the last or second time I put revolution on the back of his neck a few days after it seemed to really work. But then he started scratching again. But these past few days I rarely see him scratch anymore. So I will keep watching him, and see how the scratching goes.
