I recently rescued a baby bunny from a box in a ditch. He’s been doing great so far, but he seems to have fleas. I’ve been looking around for a good medication and other than advantage and revolution I found this spray I was hoping to use on the inside of his hutch and his bedding.

Its called 8 in 1 Ultra Care Flea and Tick Spray for small animals. It says its aproved for hamsters, gerbils, rabbits, guinea pigs, and mice. Its ingridiants are pyrethrins 0.06%, piperonyl butoxide, technical* 0.6%. *equivalent to 0.48% (butylcarbityl) (6-propylpiperonyl) ether and 0.12% related compounds.

Will any of these things hurt my baby bun? How much of the revolution or advantage should I use? He’s only about 7 months old and we think he’s a dwarf bunny.

I found the revolution puppy and kitten in the pink/lilac pack the best. Because it is set for small animals it is the easiest to judge. Check his weight and dose accordingly.

How much does it cost normally? My local walmart wants 50$. I read sponge baths can help so I took a damp towel and gave him a sorta bath with it and dried him real well. His cage is on our porch/sunroom thing and I dont want him getting cold and getting sick so I think I’m gonna keep him inside tonight just to make sure his fur dries all the way.

Revolution is only available through your vet. Not sure of cost – need to call them to ask. I’ve never heard of Revolution being sold at Walmart…

Don’t use anything you find in a store. I can tell you DO NOT USE FRONTLINE EVER – this will kill your rabbit.

Revolution flea medication?? I’ve never heard of a flea medication being prescribed by your veterinarian.

Tbh washington is a really weird state. I can buy high quality antibiotics for my fish locally which is NOT the case in many other states. So I would’nt be suprized if its the same stuff.

That’s the right one… I know it is restricted in many US states, unlike Australia where we can buy it over the counter at any pet suppliers or vet… The price is pretty standard and bear in mind three doses will last between 3-6 months depending on whether you use a full ampule each time. You might find you only need a half dose at each treatment. If it is a severe flea problem you will need to dose every month for about 3 months.
Sarita is quite correct about Frontline and other products, they can be fatal to bunnies so you need to be very careful. Revolution is the only product I trust.

Yes vets do sell flee treatments, all kinds. I’d again stress the care needed in selection and would recommend staying with Revolution. That said it is indeed available in other places, I recently saw it being sold on Dr. Fosters’ website. It isn’t cheap but its better to pay a little extra and keep you and your rabbit safe.

I called my local small vet and they suggested advantage, they also said if I call back tomorrow they’ll give me dosing for my rabbit. I’d rather give him revolution but being backed by a veterinarian makes me feel more comfortable.
