         Hey everyone.

My rabbit is really picky about his hay. I got him from a rescue ~6 months ago and I have been trying all kinds… timothy, oat, orchard grass, brome… I’ve been trying different brands and he seems to like Kaytee (the plain hay, not the kind with stuff mixed in). Watching him eat it I realized that he only really eats the hard, stalky pieces. He could care less about the beautiful, soft 2nd and 3rd cut I paid so much to have shipped

So I got a big bag of the Kaytee and I dig through it to find the long pieces. It’s better quality than I expected, but very dusty with a lot of tiny pieces and it bothers my allergies. I need to find better quality and less expensive hay somewhere. I tried looking on Craigslist for farm bales but I can only find alfalfa. Does anyone know of some good brands of “stalky” timothy hay, and where I can buy it?

And is it normal for him to only like the stalky kinds? When I was trying to get him to eat more hay, a lot of websites said that all bunnies like 2nd and 3rd cut, but he won’t do more than nibble them. It seems weird that he likes the hay that’s harder to eat.

I found the first cut timothy from Binky Bunny to be more stalky. And those compressed mini bales last a long time.

Have you checked local providores for a nice clean Oaten hay.? Thats what mine have and they are as healthy as horses.
