         So I keep reading about giving bunnies romaine lettuce as a great first vegetable. I kept looking and looking every time I went into a supermarket or fruit and veg shop and I could never find it. I thought maybe it was like kale, not easily available in Australia. Finally I looked it up and it turns out it’s what we call cos lettuce! I was so excited and crazily enough I already had three in my fridge, I just hadn’t given them to my bun because I couldn’t find anywhere if cos was safe for rabbits. I should have learned my lesson after finding that arugula is the same as rocket!

        Thought I would put this here for any fellow Aussies who were lost in translation

          Lol.
          I’ve now gotten so used to the American terms, I have to correct myself when mentioning things to other Aussies.

          Some other translations:
          Cilantro = Coriander
          Peppers/Bell Peppers = Capsicum
          Papaya = Paw Paw
          Alfalfa hay = Lucerne Hay

            I always go to a place called the market garden because their veggies are clean, fresh and they keep all the greens attatched so I get better value for my money and more nutrition for the bunnies and only just figured out that cos lettuce is romaine in England too! Although some places call it romaine still! It’s good to have it confirmed though

              I didn’t know it was called Cos lettuce in Australia – good to know!

              Thanks for the list Jersey – I knew about Lucerne and Coriander (which is what seeds/spices).

              Are there any others besides those?

                I think your cultivated dandelion greens might be chicory here. Though there seems to be many forms of chicory.

                Also, courgettes are known as zucchini (not relevant to rabbit greens).

                  I know that sometimes curly endive is called chicory in some stores but it doesn’t resemble the dandelions and I don’t think the curly endive and chicory are at all the same ting either.

                  I know too that I’ve gotten 2 different types of dandelion greens at the store – totally different leaf shapes which I’ve often wondered about.

                  I also know that chicory is a substitute for coffee (which I’ve never tried – the chicory that is).

                  I’ve heard the name courgettes – sounds French – but didn’t know exactly what it was.

                    That’s great to know! I’ve got some in my fridge too, thanks!

                      I used to live in the US and got caught out a bunch of times before I picked up on the cilantro thing – bleurgh, I hate hate hate coriander! Also every time I rodered capsicum, people looked at me like I was from outer space.

                      Some others that are interesting are eggplants=aubergines and butternut pumpkin=butternut squash.
