I found a bunny in a ditch two weeks ago and took him in. Built him a hutch on our sunroom/porch. I’ve been feeding him alfalfa and some dried fruit treat mix. I read certian things can cause bunnies to pee orangish. I’m concerned though because it hasnt quit. What else could be causing it? I’m hoping to take him into the vet sometime next week but I’m hoping I can fix it before then. I dont have any money right now I’m trying to put myself through college.

The treat mix contains dried cranberries. cherries, carrots, strawberries, and raspberries.

Those things will make their pee orange. You are just feeding that stuff to him? Is it for pets or people? Treats would be plain raisins, craisins, dried banana, etc. But they are treats. I would avoid feeding him treats right now and focus on getting him on a good diet. He should have hay, pellets, and you can introduce veggies. Alfalfa is okay for baby buns, but an adult should have timothy, oat, or orchard.

I’m not just feeding it to him. I give him a little when I bring him out to play, it also has pellets and nuts in the mix there arent many berries. He is a baby thats why I’m feeding him alfalfa.

No nuts either – they LOVE them but they really aren’t good for them.

You want to get a pellet without all the goodies in them.

Are you also feeding him some grass hay like timothy or orchard? It would be a good idea to get him accustomed to this as it needs to be the majority of his diet.

I’m feeding him alfalfa now but as soon as this bag is done which is going to be soon I’m switching him to timothy hay. Sorry I haven’t replied. I’ll make sure next time to get a mix without the nuts.
