Today I went to fuss over Buttons in the afternoon and he STANK! I popped him on my lap to take a look and there was a brown liquid around his bum (not too much if it) the smell was so potent and as I let my bunnies play in the garden every day I cleaned him up with a bunny bath before I let him out (I don’t want to risk fly strike especially this time of the year. )
I introduced pak Choy yesterday and there was no diarreer or soft stool so I’m not sure what it is or if this is what’s affected him. He seems fine in himself.
Sometimes he leaves his ceceals which is pretty normal but I’m sure I’ve seen the odd mushy one this week although the rest have been fine and eaten. Is this something I should be concerned about? I’m going to ring the vet in the morning and ask a few questions but I just wanted to see of anyone could help me shine any light on what it was and why he’s having the brown liquid x

Update: I did some rummaging in their home and there was brown urine (soaked up by hay and newspaper) in their carrier. But I was saturated in it. His litter habits are usually perfect? I’ve put a litter tray in there so it stays clean but is this an indication of a urine infection or stress or just a bad habit he’s suddenly decided to pick up

So you think the brown liquid on him was urine?

Is it possible he was using the carrier for a while before you discovered it?
What’s there any thick pasty sediment?

You can alway stop with the pak choy for a week and see if it makes a difference. Some people report certain veggies cause smelly pee with their rabbits.

I think it was urine, it was just on him and around his bum.
I kept an eye on him yesterday and everything was back to normal? He had me really worried. I know urine can sometimes be brown but his never had been before, even with the veg I had given him.
              It was quite thick?
I have a feeling the smell was also to do with his ceceals too as he often leaves one or two of them and it all has to be groomed out later on :/ I have this week off so any signs of this again and it’s off to the vet! I placed a litter tray in the carrier to stop him sitting in it again.
There was a tiny bit of white but I’d filled the carrier with hay so it was hard to tell if it was seeds or something so I didn’t panic about that but it’s something to monitor. I think it had been there during the day! Yuck!

My rabbit Alice has a similar affliction. I waited it out for about a week because every other thing about her was perfectly normal. Horrible mess though =(. and Alice usually has perfect litterbox habits (unlike Toasty). However, it was not going away so I brought her to the vet. The first vet said it was behavioral (i was in the moving process and the bunnies were being ignored =( ) and just dark urine because every other thing about her was perfect. I brought her back in about half a week when she started eating less (although still eating fairly well). Not finishing her meals is unusual. The vet palpated some gas and took an x-ray and diagnosed gastric stasis. by this time, Alice’s hind legs were covered in diarrhea. The vet gave her metoproclamide and cisapride and critical care (did not really need it as she was still eating). The medications worked almost immediately and Alice began eating voraciously again. The vet saw her for a follow up and told us to stop the medications and …… came right back. called the vet and was told to keep taking the metaproclamide for indefinitely???? very frustrating. hope this was helpful? even though I am confused myself?
