Hello – I’ve only had Simba for less than a week so not really knowing what’s “normal” is freaking me out. he’s had lots of poop like everyone’s bunnies and this morning a few of his pooplets seemed softer than the ones I’ve been cleaning up that got me worrying and I had him eat more hay… but now he hasn’t pooped except like 2 balls in the last 5 hours! His previous owner did say he has a tendency to not go if his space is dirty but I’ve cleaned up everything…

he’s only 3 months old so he hasn’t started eating fresh veggies or fruits yet… just pellets, hay and water. he was still eating and drinking normal this morning… anyone have any idea if something’s wrong or if their bunnies have ‘held it in’ before?

        Helpp!

Those poops sound like cecals – perfectly normal.

I say just relax and he will eventually poop I’m sure.

Thanks Sarita! I looked up more info on cecals and it looks like that’s what it was.

However, now that it’s been almost a month with Simba… I’ve learned that he apparently doesn’t poop during the middle of the day (is there any concern for him doing that daily?) until 6 or 7pm and he’ll poop a heap all at once. However, since that first sighting of the cecals, I’ve monitored his poop more closely and it seems he is having more cecals and his regular poop isn’t as dry (as compared to the first week I brought him home). When I first brought him home, his poop were very dry and almost tan-brown in color. Now his poop is moist (but still hard in a ball) and a dark brown. He is eating the same pellets he was being fed by his previous owner along with hay and water. He is reaching 4 months old in a little over a week and was wondering if bunny’s poop changes going from youth to maturity? Or is there a condition to worry about??

i don’t think you need worry about that. I find they will do a lot at once when in the litter box munching on hay.

At 4 months, you might start to see more random pooping when they start to mark with fecal droppings. They can look slightly shiny and smell more and scattered about the place.

Greens in the diet can cause darker looking poop. Is he on veggies now?
Another reason for darker poop is if eating less hay or difference the hay (more green leafy, less stalk etc).

I haven’t changed anything in his diet and he hasn’t had veggies yet (planning to start in another month or so…). His pellets are from his previous owner, but I’m not sure if or what hay was given. So the Kaytee Timothy Hay I have for him currently would be the only possible different thing in his diet in the last 3 weeks.
