Remi is shedding a lot and yesterday I noticed some poop string together with fur.
I read on an old thread that fresh pineapple can help breakdown the fur in their digestive track.
The poster was very adamant that the pineapple needs to be fresh and not canned (which I understand) but it was also stated that we should not purchase pineapple that has been pre-sliced and packaged by the grocery store. This might be a dumb question, but why is that not recommended as long as its not canned pineapple? I hate to buy an entire pineapple for a few bitty pieces, as no one in our house enjoys the taste.

I’m not sure what the reason would be unless the enzymes denature shortly after the pineapple is exposed to the air.

Papaya is also seen as a preventative. You can buy papaya tablets.

Hay and hydration are best. Neither pineapple nor papaya break down hair – they may break down the mucus that is holding the fur together however it has to be fresh pineapple. Papaya tablets contain very little of the enzyme that breaks down the mucus.

So hay, hydration and keeping your rabbit moving are the best things for keeping the gut moving.
