My bunny, Muggsy, has shed since I got him 9 months ago.  He is a mini lop with pretty short fur.  It always seems like he is shedding though whether I comb him or not.  When I pick him up or put him down hair just flies off.  Is this normal?  Also, I have noticed these past few days there is a line on his hed of where the hair is really short and turns into really long.  He just turned one this past week, so I was thinking maybe he is losing his baby fur and getting adult fur? I am not sure but I just want to make sure it is not anything bad and want to see if there is anything I can do to minimize it!

        Thanks!

Some bunnies go through longer sheds than others. It’s important to groom every day during a shed. What is your grooming method?

My lop Bindi sometimes gets lines where he is shedding, like what you are describing.

When you pick up a bunny, some loose fur is going to dislodge itself, regardless of whether or not they are currently shedding. I once heard some kind of crazy statistic that people lose, on average, a hundred strands of hair a day, or something ridiculous like that. Rabbits are going to be the same, they are going to lose some fur everyday.

Rabbits go through four sheds a year, two lighter sheds and two heavier “molts”. If you are seeing a shed line (where the color/texture of the fur changes somewhere on the head or body), this may be the heavier molt.

If the shedding seems excessive to you however, or it seems to last for a very long time, it is something to bring up to your vet. It could indicate a dietary issue if it doesn’t stop after awhile.

Bunny is a mini lop too

He also has lines on his head, it looks like he’s frowning all the time. So cute

I read a post the other day that said  lint roller works well, I tried it the other night and it did, but I’d be careful that you don’t put it straight on the fur though, sort of unsticky it a little bit on your clothes or hands, otherwise it might pull.

               (sorry about the large picture)

I resized your picture, buddybunny. You should be able to do this yourself by editing the post, right-clicking on the picture, and changing the dimensions under image properties.

Thank you! I haven’t been on a forum since I was about 14, it may take me a while to get back into the format again
