A while ago i discovered my bunny had a sore hock, its pretty small its pink and its only on one of her feet. Since then, I have changed the environment in her cage and made it all soft, i also switched to carefresh bedding. i havent put any kind of treatment on the sore hock, i left it untreated and it actually seems to be getting better. A little bit of fur is growing back, it has definately not gotten any worse since i first saw it. My bunny also seems to be doing fine. So my question is, will her foot be ok without a vet or any kind of treatment/ointment on the sore hock?

There is another thread about sore hocks in the Diet and Care section right now. I’m not going to retype everything here, so take a look at that thread for more info.

As far as your rabbit, it doesn’t sound like the sore hocks are infected or inflamed. If you notice that they get red, bloody, or have any discharge, a vet will need to be seen. If they are fine now, keep doing what you’re doing, but keep an eye on them. At your rabbit’s next vet appt, you can ask if the vet wants you to be doing anything preventative.

Ditto Beka. Firm pink callouses are normal. Most bunnies have them. I suggest checking hocks every week for any signs of redness or inflammation. And make sure to keep nails clipped short to prevent any problems.

Alright thanks so I don’t have to put any kind of medication on it? I was going to use preparation H but the only one they have at my local pharmacy is the kind with bio-dyne in it… and I don’t know if that’s safe.

If they are stable right now, I wouldn’t put anything on there. You could end up aggravating her feet inadvertently, especially if she starts trying to groom the ointment off, therefore irritating the area.

I went to a groomer today to have my bunny’s nails clipped and apparently it isn’t even sore hocks. The lady there said my bunny probably pulled her fur out or something.
