Enki is still stick. He was diagnosed with Pasteurella and right now the vet is giving antibiotics to try to alleviate his symptoms. His main symptoms are sneezing and congestion. He has just got done with a round of trimethoprim and chloramphenicol. Neither of these are working and he is getting worse.

He is still very much active and still loves to chomp on my hand. Poops are good and plentiful. He is a bit chubby due to the congestion slowing him down a bit. He loves food and hay and I have no issues getting him to eat or drink.

When he is out to play he still zooms around and binkies but you can tell he runs out of breath because he will stop and flop for a few minutes before resuming.

I have been giving him his antibiotics and doing breathing treatments using saline as well as suctioning his nose with a baby bulb syringe.

He has another appointment on Tuesday and the vet wants to run another culture/sensitivity test. It will be free of charge this time (thankfully! The last one cost a pretty penny).

But is this normal? Do they usually run more than one?

I’ve done numerous ear cultures on Bindi. Not sure how normal it is to have to redo them.

At least yours is going to be free. I’ve never had that luxury.

Poor little Enki. I wish I had some helpful advice. (((((Enki)))))

I definitely don’t think doing second culture is out of the norm, especially if the antibiotics aren’t working as effectively as anticipated. It’s also possible that the culture didn’t grow well, or they want to try different media. Maybe you could ask the vet the reason for the repeat? I hope Enki feels better soon!

It would be normal if the first round of antibiotics isn’t proving effective. Sounds like this is the case, so the vet is doing the right thing.
