Hi everyone, over the past 2 days, my bunny Beans has been passing long wettish poos. I’ll add a picture of it below. He was 8 weeks old when I first introduced him to bok choy, then brussel sprouts, then carrots. He is now 9 weeks old. I noticed his poo went a bit soft 4 days after the initial introduction to veggies, so I stopped feeding him veggies and gave him more pellets and hay, and now for the past two days, a few of his poos are long and wet. I’ve read about cecotropes, but these look nothing like them! Should I be worried?
PS: I’m a new bunny mum, so I’m paranoid about everything!

Hard to see the pic, but it does look weird. Introducing veggies isn’t recommended until 12 weeks. Perhaps it is over production of cecals and they somehow all smooshed together?

Hi, I would say it is cecals also. I have read that brussel sprouts (being in cabbage family) can make bunnies gassy….so maybe it is due to your bun not being able to tolerate the brussel sprouts? I would feed more neutral greens like the bok choy and celery. Maybe even not too much carrot as it is more a treat food being sweet. I started feeding my bunny greens around 8 weeks, but introduced them one by one and very slowly. Try to feed your bun more hay only, limited pellets, then introduce a neutral veggie one by one I would say. It is possible that your bun just has a sensitive stomach and needs some time for it to mature before being able to tolerate any veggies.

It looks like cecals. I would slowwww down on the introduction of veggies. I would introduce one veggie at a time and do it over a period of a good couple of day while slowly increasing the amount that you are giving your bun. That way you know what exactly is causing the issues in your bun’s diet. I ditto LBJ. I would wait till 12 weeks to introduce veggies.

Phew! Okay thanks so much for the information guys! Glad to know it’s nothing serious. I will definitely stop with the veggies until he’s a bit older!

Remember to start off slow when introducing the veggies and do it one by one.

I would read through the articles as they offer a lot of really helpful info on bunny diet.

I was on my way over to post the links Move Diagonally has given to you. I echo her, please take a couple minutes and read them, I think you’ll be really happy you did. Great that you are so enthusiastic about giving your rabbit a balanced well rounded diet. When its time you’ll be already and know what to give and the best way to introduce each food. And be prepared there will probably be some she isn’t interested in. I love them so even buy frozen ones in winter so I was less than thrilled when mine turned up their noses at Brussel sprouts. (And vegetables that cause gas in humans do not effect rabbits in the same way so don’t worry about that.)

Looking forward to hearing more about you and your new baby.

You’ll find there a probably some veggies he’ll always react to, even when older.
I give mine Brussel sprouts (half of one each) and they loooove them but I have to limit it for one bunny. He also loves celery but again, I can’t over do it or we’ll see splat poos.
                          Every bun’s different.

                          Gorgeous bunny!
