I’ve been having an issue of keeping my Bunny’s water cold all day.

Lately it’s been between 85 and 90 degrees in my apartment, and I don’t have A/C.  I read the cooling guide, and I’ve got some frozen tiles, that I change regularily.  I’ve got 2 aluminum bottles that I fill with water, and replace, as they get warm.  Instead of fanning a damp towel, I have a Frozen Gallon jug, which I fan into the room.

My big problem is that his water gets so warm, so fast.  I use a full tray of ice, and fill the rest of his bottle with the coldest water I can.  The ice melts before I can get it to his cage, and it’s warm in 30-45 minutes.  Is there anywhere that I could find an insulated rabbit bottle, so I can know it’s cool enough when I go to work for 4 or 5 hours?

In the cooling guide it says if you wrap frozen bottles in cloth they stay cool longer. I’m wondering if you couldn’t just buys some insulated socks and slide them over the water bottle in this situation too? It might be worth a try.

How warm is the water getting exactly? I think most rabbits do prefer a room temperature water as long as it’s fresh.

Thanks, I might try the sock, and then put in fewer ice cubes. I haven’t actually tested the temperature of the water. It just feels warm(Upper 70’s/low 80’s?), and I assumed having cold water available would be better for him. I can’t normally get him to drink when he’s out of his cage, unless there’s an ice cube in the dish.

Rabbits are good at self regulating their water intake but definitely you want it to be fresh. If they start drinking more than normal then that’s generally signs of a problem.

My buns have both a bottle and a bowl for water. When it got hot, I put cold water in the bottle and only ice in the bowl so the ice doesn’t melt as fast. Can also put the bowl in the fridge so keep it colder so the ice lasts even longer.

I freeze 1 liter soda bottles for my buns and I cover then with a sock then I put a fleece sock over them. They stay 8-12 hours. I freeze 2 litter water bottles and wrap that in a fake sheep skin mat it says 8-12 hours. When the bottle are don’t have hardly any ice in them I use the water to dump on a towel, drape the towel over my buns cage and let the fan run on it. It seems to keep her cool. She sometimes lays up against the water bottle or she wont lay by it but at least it throws of some air. I also keep ceramic tile in her cage!
