         Hey, there!

Guess I should start with a little bit about myself. I’m a twenty-something happily engaged gal with a menagerie in my home. I’m a student and a part time nanny (it’s nice because I spend most of my time at home with my critters). I have dogs and kitties and, up until a few months ago, a Smoke Pearl Holland Lop. His name was Hoptimus Prime and he was absolutely phenomenal. Unfortunately, he passed away from old age (I had had him since I was a kid) back in February, and I’m just now getting to the point where I’m ready to let another little bun bun into my life. We’ve found a fantastic rabbitry nearby, and have decided on a Blue Flemish Giant. We picked the Flemish Giant because, while my dogs (a pit mix and a Newf mix) were very friendly with my Lop, size is an issue for our Newf. We always get worried he’ll step on smaller creatures accidentally! Anyway, we decided on a buck (but if you have an argument for a doe over a buck, let me have it) because, in my experience, they seem sweeter/more laid back/etc. than does. He’ll be ready the second week of August, so we’re spending the next few weeks rabbit proofing our home (again).

Anyway, this is my first Flemish Giant, and I’m all about the research. So if you have any info or pages for me to visit, I would love to hear from you! We’re very new to this breed, so any tips would be greatly appreciated. Hope to meet all of you soon!

          Welcome
I’m sorry to hear you lost your lop. Sounds like he had a lovely long life. He was a gorgeous little fellow by the looks. Absolutely love the name!

It’s going to be quite a change for you going from a holland to a giant. Lol
A couple members here have Flemish giants so I’m sure they’ll be along to give some advice.

Would love to see any pics of your other animals.

When I was little my Neighbor had a Flemish giant named “Wally.” There’s something about them that is so endearing.

Sorry to hear about Hoptimus Prime. Glad to hear he lived a long and happy life!

Welcome to you and your menagerie!

Welcome! Flemish giants are amazing! My grandfather bred them for a few years when I was starting college and I loved going over there and visiting them. Before I moved out on my own, I always said that I would get a flemish giant and a pomeranian because it would be hilarious to have a rabbit bigger than a dog. That hasn’t happened though lol. The big dogs call to me too much! I also have a multi-species home where the dog(s) loves the bunny/bunnies. I’m sure your newf and pitty will love having another bunny sibling!

                Welcome to you.

My condolences on the loss of Hoptimus Prime who was super adorable and had a great name.

I don’t have any experience with Flemmies (though I would love to have one) but we do have a few regular members here that do.

Just make sure to do any interactions with your dogs very, very slowly and carefully so they don’t scare your new bunny. I’m sure you already know that, but just want to mention it all the same. We hear a lot of situations where dogs have severely frightened bunnies.

All the best of luck with bringing home bunny.

Thanks for the advice on introducing them, LittlePuffyTail! We’ll definitely take it slow, but I’m hoping that things will be made easier by the fact that the pooches have been around bunnies and our little guy is being raised with dogs as well.

We’re getting really excited for our new little one. I always thought that the bunny was my idea, but even my fiance has said that he’s really missed having a bunny around, and he’s excited to have one again.
