Do you leave a light on for you bunny(ies) at night or keep it dark? Why or why not?

I have my buns in a room with a dimmer and I put it on the lowest setting, but don’t turn it off. It is too dark for them with no light, they spook and run around thumping if left in total darkness.

I leave mine on, I dont know why, I feel like if they wanted to be in the dark they’d go in their hideouts I guess.

I usually leave a nightlight on. They don’t seem to act differently when it’s off though. My house stays pretty light from a street light nearby.

The bunnies are in my bedroom, so all of the lights are 100% turned off. If ANY light goes on, they wake up and start demanding to come out lol. Even if I open my ipad or read late at night, they are up making noise lol.

My bunnies usually have a light in the next room, which acts sort of like a night light in the rabbit room. I don’t leave it on for them, though, the ceiling fan only works when the light is on and I like to have air circulating at night. I really don’t think bunnies need a light at night.

No, we don’t do any nightlights. She has whatever natural light comes thru the windows, and our tv is usually on until about midnight (the pen is in an adjacent room). We’ve recently broken our son of the nightlight habit… Finally!

                      Thanks for the responses guys!

Like LPT, I leave certain lights on at night and they do cast some light in their room but it’s not for them specifically. I just wanted to see what the popular opinion on night lights was around here and if there was any specific reason to do or not do it. Looks like it comes down to the bunny/human preference

Nah, no night lights for me. Since I have high ceilings I have two sets of blinds. One for the windows and a smaller set above the windows. I leave those open so there is some light but it’s minimal.

All the lights go off at night. She is downstairs and we sleep upstairs, with door closed so if we read or watch TV it doesn’t shine out. She is in her crate and my dog is next to her in her own crate. If she were in a burrow, it would be pitch dark at night and I think both the dog & bun prefer it dark. They both settle down quite well when the lights go off. We’re all up with the sun, so natural light tells her it’s morning.

I do think they need some natural darkness, but I have one of those LED nightlights that has a sensor so it keeps a little bit of light in their room. My Bun would thump sometimes for attention and wake me up and it seemed to help a little. I always thought I was crazy for getting them a nightlight I’m glad I’m not alone!

My bunnies sleep in the living room and dining room. I keep a night light on in each room for them.

My Lola usually has a dim night light left on, very minimal light. She seems to bump in to thing and not find things, like her water, in the dark!

I’m sure having a night light doesn’t hurt, but bluntly, rabbits live in burrows. They do not have a problem in the dark.
