I have had one person taking care of my rabbits for several years.  When my usual caretaker cannot care for the bunnies, I have worked with pet sitter services and the results have been disasterous.

The problem is that my bunny sitter will be moving away in a few months.  Can anyone recommend a pet sitter in the Montgomery County area in Pennsylvania, that’s just outside Philadelphia.  I know getting a recommendation for my specific area is a long shot.  More importantly, do you have suggestions as to how locate a bunny sitter?

        Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I would actually recommend that you contact your vet, local rabbit rescue, and/or local chapter of HRS (if you have one). These places may have people there who offer pet-sitting services, or the rescues may have a foster people who also take in rabbits for short-term pet-sitting. In these cases, you would probably be taking your bunny to their home while you are gone.

Another more simple option… do you have a nearby friend/family member who can drop in? Or a trusted neighbor who can stop by 1-2 times a day? It isn’t difficult to fill a food dish, hay rack, and water bowl. I have gone away on vacations and I always try to simplify their care. I don’t require a lot of my pet-sitters.

The vet, I hadn’t thought about that one.  Thanks!

I posted an ad on Craigslist and interviewed the candidates and talked to their references. Any candidate who did not ask that I provide vet info were automatically turned away. I also made a very detailed write-up of filling hay box schedule, feed schedule, littler schedule, health history, a few different vet info, as well as general personality and behavior of each bun.

I was away for nearly a month and the typical pet sitting rate from pet sitters, vets, rescues, etc would have been $25 per bun per day.

                 Hmmm…another really good idea!  Thank-you
