My bunny is 9 weeks old and not yet fixed. I am planning on it. I was trying to litter train him. After he is trained I am switching to fleece because it is easier and cheaper. I am unsure if he is getting confused because I use the same bedding in his litter pan as the rest of the cage but I mix it with soiled bedding. I tried to put in commercial small animal litter but he keeps eating it! Also what do I put underneath the fleece. Towels? Newspaper?

I have an 11 week old bunny, Fiona. Right now, she doesn’t have anything soft in her cage and has a litter box with yesterday’s news in it. They’ll potty on soft things, so it’s best to have the litterbox be the only thing that’s soft in it. And if you are using the same thing in the pan and bed, you are confusing the bunny.

Actually, it’s not necessary at all to put bedding in the rest of the cage – it only confuses the bunny as to where the toilet is! To us humans, it seems more comfortable to have soft bedding everywhere, but most bunnies don’t mind one bit if there is no bedding. What commercial small animal litter are you using? If price is an issue for you, some popular and less expensive options are recycled paper litters (unscented) or wood stove pellets/horse stall pellets etc. Just make sure wood pellets don’t have accelerants or other added chemicals.

I would agree with the others. Your rabbit is probably confused as to where to go because it is the same litter. Try using on litter for the litter box and another for the cage. You can start of by using fleece right now. I use fleece for my rabbits cage and underneath it is just my hardwood floor
