Hi Delilah just come home form her spay today, she seems ok at the moment she is just laying there, when i picked her up the vet told me she eat some food but to ensure she can have her food at any time. She seems relaxed at the moment which is good.

I have a few questions for people how much should she be eating over the next 3 days?

Ive tried to offer her some food and veg but she turnt both down.

Another thing is it a good idea for me to restrict her to her cage or let her wonder about in my living room?

Finally she had internal stitches so do i need to watch her jumping about?

Any other advice to help her get a speedy recovery would be great

        Thanks

            Hey there –

Spays are more intrusive and therefore can take more times for the females to heal than a simple neuter with a male. Make sure she has eaten by about 12-24 hours – if not you will want to contact your vet. Try and entice her with some very fragrant herbs such as mint, basil, cilantro. Something with a very strong smell. Or a typical favorite vegetable. If she likes banana or canned pumpkin you can try some of those. But stick to small amounts, you just want to get her appetite stimulated and her eating normally again.

Definitely restrict her as you don’t want her tearing her incision open. She shouldn’t be allowed to jump up onto another level in the cage either so if you have a 2nd level in there remove it. Make sure her water and food is easily accessible. A bowl of water is better than a bottle as she may be too sore to reach up for the bottle.

Did your vet provide you with any Metacam for pain management?? If so, you can give her that per instructions to help.

Sending lots of vibes for your girl! Let me know if you have any more questions!

Sorry took so long to reply but your trick with mint worked a treat next morning she was hungry for her food and has eaten properly since we are back on all her normal veg now and tbh she seems like bunny before the op. She only drinks her water out of a bowl I’m not sure why she did use to drink out of a bottle but we gave her a bowl a few times with ice in it when the weather has been hot and now she only drinks from the bowl. Another question will her litter habbits return or will I have to train her again? Thanks so much again!!

Her litter habits will most likely return but it may take a few weeks as her hormones will still be all crazy during that time. Just keep up with cleaning up after her and putting the poops in the litter box.

The reason she’s drinking from the bowl is likely because she can get more water from it than the bottle. And adding ice when its hot is a great idea. Keep it up
