My bunny hurt its paw a couple days ago by what I think was from jumping off the sofa. She’s jumped off the sofa numerous times before, but this time (or repeated jumpings) had her hurt her paw. She was limping around with the paw up, but was eating and going to the bathroom just fine, the only thing was she tried not to move around too much or put too much weight on that paw, but I did see her put it down sometimes when she was eating, maybe to test the pressure on it?

Last night she seemed a bit better, and this morning I noticed the paw was down, and she did not keel over on one side as she did occassionally before when she tried to eat sometimes, I think as a result of putting too much pressure on it.

The problem now is she won’t move from a corner of her housing, which happens to be the litterbox area. She took a few steps around, but still stays in that general area with her behind in one corner. I tried coaxing her out with some food and pellets, she ate them but as soon as she took more than one step out of that enclosure, she acted like she did when she stretches, and stretched, but retracted herself to that corner.

I’ve checked around for anything that might scare her, and the other areas of the housing are clean.

I don’t know what’s going on, could anyone give some insight on this? I don’t know if this had to do with it, but I accidentally touched her hind paw today while trying to clean up that litterbox area as that’s where she now lies down and rests, but she flinched noticeably. I don’t think it’s hurt though, she’s standing on it well. I’m a fairly new bunny owner, as she was given by a family friend so I’ve only had her for about a month now, but she adjusted quite well.

This may be a pain response bc of her hurt paw OR it may be the beginning of a GI episode. If it’s the latter, this could either be unrelated to the hurt paw, or it could be reduced consumption bc of the pain/stress from the injury.

So in short, I don’t know. There’s no way we will be able to give a definitive answer.

It’s recommended that your rabbit see a vet if he/she does not eat for 12-24 hours. I understand she is still eating now, but keep in mind that it is Friday today and many vets close for the weekend.

Her recent injury, reduced eating, and now limited movement warrants a vet check as soon as possible.

The paw is all better but she seems sick… brownish stuff on her nose and her right side below the nose is very wet… really red/pink, can’t tell if it’s matted pee (from licking it…?) or discharge… she just had a drink but I heard her sneeze quite a bit about an hour ago. Right now she just started shaking slightly and her eyes almost closed and she was like that for a minute. She’s awfully quiet / inactive, eats only very small amounts opposed to the handfuls of hay and veggies she used to eat a day, and her stools are now small, and/ir misshapen.

She needs to see a vet.
