So my bunny “Baby” has been digging my carpet, and making her litter go EVERYWHERE. I intend on making a digging box… I know some of you use paper shreds, but I use FreshNews litter and I don’t want them to use it as a litterbox. Ya know? So I was wondering what if I went out and bought like gardening soil and put it in a box… Would that be safe?

I don’t know if soil is safe because it could be contaminated by manure or chemicals. Instead I would use something like playground sand, like you put in sandboxes. I think Lowes and Walmart sell it but I’m not positive.

Sand has it’s own list of concerns. See the thread here:

I would try shredded paper and see if they use it as a litter box before searching for another option. It might not be a problem. Another fun digging/shredding item for rabbits are phone books (as long as they use soy based ink).

I guess it depends on where you are putting the box and how big of a digger your bun is.
