I am thinking about showing my rabbits. This is my pedigreed rabbit, Bianca. I want to know what the faults on her are and what the good things are. Is she a nice looking rabbit? Are her ears too short? Thanks

Also, she is a pointed white, correct?

Another thing… sorry… I am a bit confused on what lionhead standards are supposed to look like, could someone explain what a beautiful lionhead would look like? what are the characteristics in a good sturdy lionhead?

She is very beautiful.. Unfortunately I have no idea what show standard is… You could try checking out some of the sites for show rabbits, I have looked at them before and they will outline standards for specific breeds and show photo’s of some of the best rabbits.

She is a very beautiful rabbit. I agree with Roberta, you will probably have better luck looking up breed standards on breeder or rabbit showing websites.

From what I understand, short ears in lionheads are desirable. Excess fur (a double mane) is undesirable. So I think those are probably both in your favor.

Welcome to the forums! Our community here is centered around keeping rabbits as spayed/neutered indoor pets, so unfortunately we may not be of much help if you’re looking for breed standards. However, if you want to know how best to help your bunny become part of your family, feel free to ask questions!

What a cutie! We definitely don’t know what the precise breed standards are, but she’s gorgeous! Since she’s pedigreed, you may want to contact the breeder directly for this info.

An important thing to keep in mind is that spay/neutered rabbits generally cannot be shown. This is obviously an issue because female rabbits MUST BE SPAYED to prevent the high incidence of reproductive cancer. Showing your rabbit may be fun for you, but weigh the risks…. Is it really worth her life being drastically cut short? Would you rather show her and she pass away at 3 or 4 years old, or would you prefer her live a long, fulfilling life as your pet for 10+ years?

As others have mentioned it’s best to do your own research on what the show standards are. Breeders and show clubs would be your best resource. I too have a lionhead but I only know the basic breed characteristics. As yours gets older the fur will quickly grow so you’ll have a better idea of how the mane and skirt (if any) will fill out. Also her ears look good to me. They should be short and pointed, like cat ears lol.

I chose mine because he looked like a rabbit-kitten mix and was super adorable to boot. He still is, just with more fur!

I thought lionheads weren’t a recognized breed by ARBA standards?

They’re not, Snowtoshi. They are in the process of **possibly** being admitted.

Make sure you really research showing rabbits, Willow. The process can be very stressful and traumatizing for rabbits so really consider if that’s what you want to do after doing lots of research! You’ll be exposing your buns to the possibility of sickness and such. And it can be very stressful for them. I was interested in showing until I realized what you needed and how you must handle your bunny and then I completely backed out – I realized it just wasn’t the place for me. They are centered around having the rabbit strictly for breeding – not for a pet or fun household animal.
