What are some healthy but fattening foods for bunnies besides pellets? Any particular veges work better for gaining weight?

Is your rabbit underweight? If you havent talked to your vet, maybe you can ask them if there is something in particular that you can give to them to help them put on some weight. Leafy greens should be incorporated in the diet along with unlimited fresh hay and pellets. There are some fruits that are safe for rabbits but are okay in moderation. My bun loves bananas and strawberries and would probably eat his weight in them if he could!

Kale, Peppermint, Spearmint, Dandelion Greens, and Fennel are a bit higher in calories than some others.

              Thanks!!

Too bad most of those are on the hated list. Will have to load up on dandelion greens.

Thought carrots were unhealthy and should only be for treats.

I’m feeding my girl some straight hay pellets. I’m certain they’re helping her gain a bit.
Because the hay is somewhat processed, the body is expending less energy digesting it. So they extract from it more readily yet it’s still good fibre.
I use them because she won’t eat hay. So I guess they’re not ideal if buns go for them instead of hay, but if only on them short term I suppose it’s ok.

                    Alfalfa hay is healthy choice.

No, that’s another old misconception about carrots and rabbit diet – read this article for a list of healthy veggies:

                      rabbit.org/suggested-vegetables-and…bbit-diet/

I think people said that in the past because it’s not the main thing a rabbit should eat but it’s plenty healthy in small doses as recommended in the above article.

As Sarita says, carriots are ok in moderation but of course they can’t live on carrots only. Many cartoons show rabbits eating carrots and that’s probably why many people believe carrots are what rabbits eat, much like they think monkeys only eat bananas.

My bunny Bam doesn’t get any carrots at all because he’s a tendency towards plumpness and carrots are high in energy.
