Hi all! Wondering if you could chime in on this… My last bunny was a wood chomper and a cord chewer from day one. Nothing was safe. Even bit thru the phone cord mid-conversation. My new bun has not given wood or cords a second glance so far. She’s 13 weeks old and has been here 6 weeks. My question is… Is there a chance she will develop a taste for these things ? Or are her preferences pretty well set? She does like to chew cardboard – no biggie – I leave lots of it around for her and she likes a few of the different chew toys from the store. Is my trust misplaced? Any of your good buns go bad?!

Is that your bunny in your avatar? Look at those ears! Eeeeee!
So she is 13 weeks? She may not have hit puberty yet, so do be prepared for that. All bunnies go through naughty phases. How “bad” it is depends on the bun though. If your bunny doesn’t like to chew on cords, drywall, wood, carpet, or whatever then she could stay that way. Or she could develop a taste for it during puberty and keep it. Or she could develop a taste for it during puberty and then lose interest after she is spayed and has matured a bit.

I’d say better safe than sorry. Hope that she won’t develop the need to eat every electronic device in the house but don’t plan on it either.

Example: I have a paper shopping bag that sits under my table that I use to collect recycling items. I’ve had the bag longer than my bunny. She’s never looked twice at it except to nudge it out of her way. I came home yesterday to shredded paper everywhere because she had decided to demolish it for no particular reason. For months she didn’t touch it, until yesterday, when she completely destroyed it.

Bunnies are not logical creatures sometimes and just because she hasn’t bothered with these items yet doesn’t mean she never will.

My bunny Bam didn’t chew cords until after about a year in my home. Then one day he decided to cut the Internet-cable. He proceeded to cut 2 loudspeaker-cables and one phone-cord. Then I decided to wrap every cord and cable in aluminum foil until I could get proper cable-covers (or what they’re called).

Then it was all good for 6 months or so. Then one day just recently I caught him chewing on a cable-cover.

                Rabbits move in mysterious ways.

Lol! Okay, well then I guess with Bunnies I should just “expect the unexpected!” Though after Mr Wire-eater, it sure would be nice to relax a little!!
And LBJ10 – that’s my Jo in my avatar – she has satellite dishes for ears!!!

Most bunnies become super desctructors during puberty. Best to keep everything out of reach, whether she’s interested or not. Even bunnies that don’t regularly chew on things can suddenly develop an interest in tasting them.

Mrs. Coach is definitely not a chewer, but she seems to want to occasionally sample things out of the blue. Months in the den & just last week she took a tiny nibble out of the corner of the couch.
