alright guys, I got a new rabbit cage for Buffy, bigger and better! I got it yesterday afternoon and I set it up, all nice and clean but IN A NEW SETTING. We put her in front of the window, because that was the only place, since its so big! I put her there because there’s a nice breeze and occasionally there are birds, trucks, and cars. However, the minute we put her in, she sat down for 3 seconds, and IMMEDIATLY STARTED GOING INSANE!!! SHE STARTED BITING AND SHAKING THE CAGE WITH HER HANDS AND TEETH!!! I couldn’t take it and anymore so I took her out, thinking that she would thump at me, but she flopped right away… SO then, I brought the cage back where the other, older cage was and put her there and she was content. So, I kept her there for the night and brought back the cage to the new place, left her theere for 3 and half hours so she could get used to it, BUT NOOO. SHE BIT HER WAY OUT OF THAT CAGE. SHE SHAKED THAT CAGE LIKE NO ONES BUISINESS!!!! and, I felt soo cruel, so I opened the cage, she hopped out and flopped! what the heck??!!!

what do i do?? do I keep her in there? make sure she gets used to it and then take her out?

whats the cause of this? the car noises?

should i shut the lights, leave her alone and leave the room?

Btw, I no longer have my old cage, it got sold.

and also, shes biting the cage soooo much! wont it hurt her gums??? and also, the cage is made of wire, but dont worry, not the base!!! its just that when she puts her hands up to the cage and shakes it and bits it, wont it cause some pain?

        PLEASE HELP!!! THANK YOU!

She might be feeling exposed next to the window.

I brought Merida & her cage over to my boyfriend’s parents’ place a few times when we went to visit (they’re only 20 minutes away and as potential bunny-sitters, I figured having Merida see the place a few times while I was there with her might help her be more comfortable when we actually leave her with them.) Anyway, they have HUGE glass doors looking out into the backyard, and I thought she’d enjoy the view. NOPE. She seemed terrified. Sat in the corner, eyes bugging, breathing a little fast. So I moved the cage away from the window, so that a couch blocked her view of the window, and she almost immediately relaxed: hopped around, showed interest in the different surroundings, ate some hay, etc.

I would either find a different place for the cage, or if you absolutely cannot keep it anywhere else, block her view of the window somehow. It might also be useful to keep in mind that a nice breeze now could turn into an unpleasant cold draft in the winter time (I have no idea if you get bad winters, or how good the insulation in your home is; it’s just a thought).

What type of cage did you get her? How different is it from her old cage? If it’s the window that is scaring her, maybe you could put a set on the back of the cage so she can’t see it.

My rabbits will bit on the cage and that is normally it normally means they want out. My rabbit sunshine does this especially at night I just have to sit in bed even though it bothers me because if i get up and let her out she will expect it all the time. If the window is open maybe try closing the window and seeing if that helps then gradually open the window as she gets use to being in the cage. I have switched my buns cage 3 times and have moved her to a completely different room and didn’t have problems. Make sure everything is the same in the cage as it was in the old cage.

Alriight, I moved the cage back to the usual place and she LIKED IT SO MUCH BETTER! she’s really happy, she even got into the cage herself and ate a bunch of hay, drank water and the usual stuff I thought about putting her back in front of the winter again and realized that it wouldn’t be good for the winter… Thanks for the help!!!
