So, my first bun dusky had just been diagnosed with bortadella. I’m quite annoyed by this as his sneezing had been ongoing since January and our original vet insisted it was not infectious and that it was an allergy!

However, we adopted a new bun nearly a week ago and they are pretty much bonded.

I’m now concerned that the new bun, victor, will develop the same infection. Do we need to keep them completely seperate or can they still have playtime together?

        Any opinions would be great!

First, I don’t know. I am not familiar with it, but am very glad you’ve gotten a more accurate diagnosis. I would call your vet that is now treating her and just ask. A vet will definitely call you back to answer a simple question like that. Take the vet’s advice regarding the new bun. It may be necessary to give some preventative meds, but your vet who did this new diagnosis is the best judge of it. They don’t charge for a phone call like that. (Only if you need to get some meds or a prescription filled for the other bun.)

            Thanks rabbitpam.

Another question, the vet has given dusky amoxicillin by injection. I was of the understanding that this isn’t so good for rabbits but they said it was fine.

            What’s everyone else’s opinion?

Do you mean a pen-g shot? Injectible penicillin is safe.

It is my understanding that all rabbits carry bortadella – if it were me I would not separate an already bonded pair as that would be more stressful on them.

I was thinking the same about separating them. It’s not penicillin it’s amoxicillin.

It’s a penicillin antibiotic – it’s fine as an injection just not orally.
