Still relatively new at bunny ownership and there seems to be somthing to worry about all the time! I’m sure I seem pretty neurotic on here but everyone has been so helpful.

So, in my piles of reading on bunnies everyone seems to agree they need good wood chews to keep their teeth down right? Problem. My bunny doesn’t seem interested in any of these. She’s got a big wooden carrot fastended to the bars of her house, wooden chews hanging from the ceiling and apple twigs dotted around the house. She basically ignores them all. At one point she seemed quite keen on the apple twigs but that has been pretty short lived. She has all round access to hay and chomps away on tonnes of that so I’m guessing the back teeth will be ok. Just a bit worried about the front ones. Do I need to be?

Thanks so much in advance for any help / advice.

        Laura and Tamariz x

I wouldn’t worry, my bun dusky wont go near wooden chew toys either, and hates apple twigs! We just give him a firm hay such as first cut Timothy and he’s been fine so far

My bunnies don’t chew on wood. But they do love apple-twigs. Not the wood-part, though, they strip the bark off and leave the wood. I don’t think they have to chew wood, hay should do.

No, hay is what wears teeth down, not wood.

Not the OP, but thanks so much! I was starting to get worried at Oreo’s complete lack of interest in chews. Reading this helps a lot.

Have discovered she will chew on apple twigs if I give her the little ones to strip bark from but she won’t touch the chunkier pieces. Definitely prefer the firm hay. Her favourite it Burgess her age with Timothy and marigold flowers. Hoping there’s enough chomping on that. Thanks again everyone. This forum really has been a god send.

rabbit usually are not interested in wood. cut a low opening on a  cardboard shoebox  and put hay in it or just stuff a toilrt paper tube with hay and carrot pieces mine loves this. many rabbits like loofah chews so give em a try. also nectarine pits help alot. there are some difference chews to try: seagrass twists.,timothy hay balls, willow sticks, grass mats, loofah, and cardboard

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND that you give your rabbit nectarine pits or any kind of fruit pits to chew on.

Since many fruit pits/seeds/stones (for example apple and peach, and I expect nectarine) contain cyanide I’d never give them to any animal to chew.
