I currently use Carefresh to fill my bun’s litterbox. Used it for my previous rabbit, a shorthaired Dwarf. However my current one is a lionhead and his long fine fur picks up small bits of litter like a magnet. Since I put his hay in the litter box, after eating it’ll look like he has a milk mustache lol. I’d like to help by brushing them out but he’s not that comfortable with me yet to let me do so.

Any sugestions for alternative litter fillings? Particularly ones which won’t end up getting stuck in his fur.

Untreated Wood Stove Pellets are great. They’re cheap but can be harder to find in the summer. Horse stall pellets, FelinePine, Dryden, etc… Are the same thing and can be found year round in feed stores/pet stores.

Yesterdays News, definitely recommend! It’s safe for rabbits, doesn’t get stuck in hay or fur, and a huge bag costs $16.99 at Petsmart, usually lasts for a couple months for us.

I use a pelleted horse stall litter (wood stove pellets) and they are great and very affordable.

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll try Yesterday’s News since it it’s been mentioned so often and I can find it easily in stores.

Make sure to get the unscented kind.

My lionhead had the same problem with Carefresh. We switched to a Super Pet brand of recycled paper pellets (similar to Yesterday’s News), and he doesn’t get TP stuck on his bum anymore.
