As some of you may know I live in southern California near the desert and it gets REEEAAALLY hot sometimes in the summer.  Today it’s 104 degrees fahrenheit and tomorrow it will be 107.  Luckily I have air conditioning and fans. My room that the bunnies are in doesn’t get as cool as other parts of the house but it’s not super hot.  However, it is too warm for my liking for the bunnies so I turned on the fan, refilled their water bowl with fresh COOL water and gave them a huge frozen water bottle wrapped in a towel to lie against.

If you live somewhere where it gets really hot what are you doing to keep your bunnies cool?

My rabbit room is also the hottest part of the house, but it doesn’t get as hot here. I do all the same things you just mentioned We keep the fan on 24/7 and never turn off the AC even though it would save on bills. I don’t want to risk Ashe and Moogle’s health.

Because it’s such a popular subject every year, BB has a page devoted to cooling tips. It’s under the Bunny Info Menu above. Here’s a link to that page.

In addition to dampening ears, I had success with a small turban. Small washcloth moistened with cool water than wrung out almost dry. Wrap gently around both ears and let it set there. If it feels good to your bunny, they won’t shake it off for a while. The inside of the ears are very temperature sensitive, which is why dampening them cools them down.

Our A/C keeps up well enough, so the buns stay cool and the vents are on the floor, so they can flop out on top of them if they want to be extra cool.

My bunny room also gets pretty hot since it’s at the front of the house where the sun shines most of the day. I have a mini-blind on the window but some sunlight still comes in which can cause heat so I put a dark sheet over the window for the sunniest parts of the days. It keeps it dark and cooler in there. They also have personal fans which I attach to their pens (dog crate cooling fans). I have a small thermometer I keep in there to monitor the temperature. If it gets too hot, I turn my living room a/c up and give them frozen water bottles.

I freeze 6 liter soda bottles and just change them throughout the day. Its been a while since hes been outside since the temperatures where i live are extremely high like everyday its 105-112 degrees and at nights its still pretty hot and only cooling down no more than 90 degrees. Hes posted up in my room in a play pen. i also bought some battery powered fans to put in his outside cage at walmart there super cheap and some have clip ons so they clip on the sides of the cage.

My bunny gets very hot during the summer because of his mounds of fur. I keep him cool by freezing a waterbottle and wrapping a sock around it. He usually cuddles with it. Another thing I happen to do, is plop an icepack in his cage whenever he gets warm. He sometimes licks the water off of it and lays near it. I have some tiles that are always cold just incase he needs more. He usually responds by laying ontop of it and falling asleep. I find that they are great for all types of rabbits.
