Just had to share… my 12 week old Flemmie, Jo-Jo, is so nosey and I truly love it. I’m so glad that she has enough trust to come investigate any new thing that comes in to her world. I make custom dolls for a living and was out on the deck (there’s a baby gate at the stairs) taking photos when who should photo bomb me!

        Silly wabbit!

              Thanks!

Sarita – my last bun was very timid so all this boldness is new to me!

This is a close-up of the doll…. just in case you were curious.

Haha, I thought it was a real baby when I first saw the thread too. It’s really amazing!

Yes, do you have more? These are so neat.

Wow! How do you make those? What are they made out of? Do you air brush/paint them? Or are the skin tones inside whatever they are made of? (Sorry.. curious art major/teacher )

The babies are sculpted in clay (head, arms, legs), and then a mould is made and they are poured in a very soft silicone-like vinyl. They come out just a plain flesh color. Then I paint all the veins, capillaries, skin tones, lips etc., (each layer of paint needs to be heat set, so there’s often dismembered baby parts in my oven! :-/ ), insert glass eyes, or for sleeping babies I root eyelashes, and hair one hair at a time… Fill arms, legs and soft cloth body with polyfill fiber and micro glass beads to give the baby a realistic, heavy weight… Put them all together and instant baby! I sell them on Ebay.
And I have a Facebook page – Snugglebug Nursery.

That’s so amazing! You are so talented! How long does it normally take you to complete one baby? Do you do this on a daily basis? Do people ever send you pictures and you try to replicate their baby?

I love how this thread was about your bunny and now it turned into the baby sculpting thread lol! I’m just in awe!

Can you move their arms and legs and change their positions?

Reborns are truly amazing!!! After years of admiring (and longing) I gave into temptation and with the generous help of a wonderful reborn artist was able to buy one this spring. She is simply gorgeous, can’t get over her. My artist (Beverly Hersh) doesn’t make her own sculpts but she does fabulous work. Everyone who has seen my little girl has been simply speechless at her realism. Even her eyes fail to focus and appear to be looking at you in the way of a newborn baby’s. I think the people who make these dolls are so lucky, dearly wish it were something I was able to do, … I’d love it.

And no NBO, it takes quite a while to do, definitely couldn’t make one a day. I’ve read more then one artist say rooting the hair was the most time consuming part of the process (if it is hand rooted then it is done two or three strands at a time), its a true labour of love. Beverly does work with people to make the doll look like a picture if that’s what they want, … or simply to pick eye and hair colour, skin tone etc. to their preference.

CherriB, you are very lucky, … hope you enjoy every beautiful sculpt!

Oh I wasn’t asking if it took a day to make. I was wondering if she did this on a daily basis. and also how long it normally takes for her to complete one baby?

Thanks all! I really enjoy what I do and it has allowed me to be able to stay home and let my funny bunny be out all day!

I don’t sculpt all of my babies, other artists will allow people to buy their already poured parts and we paint, root and put them together. Still, no two are EVER alike! They are totally flexible and posable and really feel like a baby in your arms!

Thanks for all the kind words!
