        Here is the scoop…

I live in vermont, we dont have air conditioning in my house but my rabbit is allowed to roam in out bonus room all day. She is litter trained and cant get into much trouble in there. It is a little warm, I do have some icepacks about for her but I feel like a nice shady spot in the yard might be good during the day. That way she could catch the breeze. I have been thinking about buying her a hutch, not for full time, just while im at work, so she could play in the grass and hopefully stay a little cooler. Obviously on Hot days I wouldnt leave her where she would be in danger.

Something like the above image maybe? Is it ok to let them out in the grass for a little while?

        Thanks for your thoughts.

I would only allow her outside when you are there to supervise. I definitely would NOT let them out while you are at work. If something happened such a predator harassing them or they did happen to vet heat it would be terrible for you to not be around to come to their rescue. I just wild be paranoid not being home and knowing they are outside.

I second that. Whether it’d be an animal predator or a human with evil designs, or the danger of overheating, you need to be there to protect your babies. Besides, going out with them can be a fun time for interaction for all of you.

Sometimes in summer especially bugs can be a problem. Where I live, when it’s not overly hot, the mosquitoes can be horrible! We haven’t had trouble with fleas though, so that’s good.

I just set up a folding exercise pen and put a lawn chair or two in there, get my tea and a book and the bunnies and we all spend quality time together. It’s sweet when they come up to me for pets!

I agree with the others… I have heard too many horror stories from people who had their buns outside only to have them die from flystrike or mosquito borne diseases like Myxxi, attacked by predators and literally die from beating themselves about inside the cage unable to escape, being stolen by local children or worse by ugly human beings who just see other peoples pets as a free meal…

If you want a way to cool them off, a battery operated fan with a bucket of water in front of it and a couple of hand towels half in water and half draped over so the towels stay wet and the fan blows over them… cheap swamp cooler.

If it’s cooler outside than in, what about a window fan?

I wouldn’t leave her outside while you’re at work.
