I have a 2 week old cotton tail that is unable to urinate. I do not have a vet in my area that will see wilds. Does anyone have any ideas or advise of what I could try?

Is there a rescue center somewhat near you? Wild rabbits are not meant to be kept in captivity and will not be as social as domestic rabbits, regardless of being brought up in a social household. They will have the expertise you need.

Do you know if he is unable or if he is simply refusing? He could be too stressed to eat or drink. I would monitor to see if he is drinking anything.

          Best of luck!

I am a foster for a rescue center. I have had them since they were 2 days old. She came in after being roughed up by a dog. She was initially urinating blood the first day stimulated but after a round of baytril it cleared and she has been doing fine. they are eyes open and starting to eat solids. they have had the cecotropes as well. She seems to try when stimulated but nothing. The other ones take a minute or so but they all pee and poop normally. I am worried she had an injury and now that some scar tissue has caused a blockage. She is way to little to do a catheter and there is not a wildlife vet available.

Have you asked anyone in your rescue center for help? That’s what you should do.

Your rescue center should have access to the resources you need. Certainly they have a vet that will see wildlife. How else could they rehabilitate?

Is the rescue you foster for general rabbit rescue or a wildlife rescue?

Randy Atkinson is a rabbit rescuer and licensed wild life rehabber with interest in wild rabbits. You could try email him. I don’t know if this address is current sorry.

(remove spacing I’ve put in the address here).

Your state should have listings if other wildlife rehabbers also that might be able to advise.

After several attempts with massage and stimulation I was able to break the scar tissue loose and she urinated forever. She is able now to go on her own. I will keep an eye on her but she seems to be doing well and I should be able to release them in a week or two.

Oh well done! I’m sure the little bun was much more comfortable after.

                      Best of luck!
