Hi guys I have three 8 week old rabbits. They all come from an amazing breeder. One of them pooped cecotropes this morning. They all eat top of the line pellets and Timothy hay. I ended up cutting back on the pellets and leaving him with the Timothy hay. His poop went back to normal. As soon as I put the pellets back in he started pooping a few mushy poops. They were mostly moist and if the bunnies step on them they mush onto the floor. What should I do? It doesn’t smell bad he doesn’t have poop stuck to his bottom either. He’s eating and drinking water just fine. If he doesn’t get better we are taking him to the vet tomorrow.

Well as long as the cecotropes are normally formed it’s not a problem.

But having the vet do a fecal test to check for cocciddia is always recommended for new rabbits – it’s easily cured with medication.

Now it’s sticking to his bottom and it smells. Everytime I put the pellets back he gets like this! The breeder said to take him back maybe he needs more time with mom but idk what to do!

I remember from your other post that you’re in the process of switching over his pellets from the pellets the breeder gave you. The pellets you are switching to are a mix. You said you were going to start over with a new plain pellet and switch.

Are you still feeding the pellet mix? Which pellets are causing the issue? The unstable diet/pellet quality could be contributing or causing the issue.

Here is the other post in case knowing the diet background helps anyone else give advice:

My midnite had that a few wks ago parasite they found it with a blood test.
When i first got him he had the same thing we elminated everything one by one turned out it was the PELLETS took him off pellets and no problems. As long as they get hay and veggies the vet said you do not really need pellets.

Do NOT take them off pellets – they are too young to do this.

Hey guys ok I have been giving him smaller amounts of pellets I’ve had him on mostly Timothy hay. I honestly don’t know what to do. The other two are perfectly fine and eating pellets all the time along with their Timothy hay and water. This one will start doing mushy poop as soon as he eats the pellets. This morning he’s doing poop normal we will see how it goes. We haven’t switched their food they are on the same food the breeder had them on. He’s eating fine and drinking water though. We are definitely taking him to the vet. But what should I do in the meantime? Do you think he’s over eating? Is there even such a thing as baby rabbits over eating? The breeder said to give him a tablespoon of food everytime he wants to eat that way he is encouraged to eat more hay since they practically neglect it for the pellets. Right now I have this bunny separated from the other two so I can see how he poops after eating the pellets.

We did switch the pellets for a small amount of time but we barely mixed the new ones in there as soon as you guys said the pellets weren’t good we slowly started mixing the old pellets and weaned them off the new brand. All the bunnies did fine going back to the old food and we went back to the breeder and bought a large ba of what he had been giving them. Switching food scares the crap out of me. So we decided to leave them with their old food. All of them are doing great but the brown holland lop eats pellets like crazy and neglects the Timothy hay.

Since you have a rabbit that does not tolerate these pellets I would look for something new. A lot of bunny’s do well on American Pet Diner or Oxbow. If you look at your other thread you get some good advice on how to switch over pellets with minimal digestive upset.

What brand/pellets are you feeding now?

He’s always had these pellets they are the same pellets the breeder fed them and they never gave him wet poop before. It’s called mana pro premium rabbit feed. He feeds them to all his rabbits and ours has been eating that since they started pellets.
