Caleb’s offical first vet visit is wednesday, what questions should I ask? He’s only gone to the vet to get neutered and that was all they did, now I think that’s strange so he’s never gotten fully looked at. I said that it was an annual check up, does this cover looking at their teeth? I’m just a little lost on what I should be expecting…..any help/advice would be awesome

During a well exam my vet will weigh them, feel their bodies, check their nails, hocks, anal glands, teeth, ears, eyes, listen to their heart, lungs, and tummy, and a bunch of other stuff I’m forgetting. Lol. After she does her check up routine she usually asks if there’s anything in particular I’ve noticed or had concerns about and investigates further based on that (or if she noticed something during the exam).

If it’s your first time they’ll probably ask you about diet and get a general history about his behavior/health. Stuff like that.

Ok thanks I’m going to a rabbit specific vet so they should do the same things. that sounds like your vet is very thorough, I hope mine is the same. How much does it usually cost for you, I know it’s different for every place but I’m just looking for a rough estimate

I pay around $50 for an annual exam.

I do know another rabbit vet around here that charges $90 for a well visit and $140 if you think something is wrong with your rabbit. O.o I don’t really understand charging someone more if they think their rabbit is sick because they charge for any treatment required on top of that.

Ok so the vet is tomorrow, I have like a medium sized cat carrier (which I cleaned). My plan is to put Caleb’s blanket in there (he’s had it since day 3 of being with us), his teddy bear (which he sometimes humps but is his “bunny” companion), I was thinking about taking pellets and hay (there is this small like food thing that will hook onto the cage part that has 2 small compartments *I’m thinking it’s for food and water*). Also thinking about bringing his water dish but idk when I would give him water….will he be ok without it for a few hours (this seems like a dumb question)? also I was going to bring his litterbox, my plan was to have him be in the cat carrier during the ride then put him in his litterbox to use it before we go in and then put him back in the cat carrier. Is this a good idea? Any thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated thanks

                    How far is the drive?

I put a towel in the carrier, toss in some hay, put in the bunny, and go. I wouldn’t worry about food/water dishes, extra food, toys, and a litter box for a check up. It’s likely he’ll be too stressed out to eat much and I doubt he’ll use the litter box right before you go in like that. He might pee in the carrier (occasionally mine do) which is why I use an old towel that I don’t mind washing.

For longer trips, spays/neuters, drop off appointments, etc… I do pack more stuff but for a well visit not much is needed. My vet is about 20-25 minutes away.

Good Luck to you and Caleb on your vet visit!

It’s a 50 minute drive there (I picked this place because 1. it’s going to be closer when we move and 2. because they know about bunnies lol), I’ll use an old towel and then put his blankie in there then and some hay and call it good thanks. I think I was being one of those over packers lol thank you so much i hope everything goes well.
