My mum made apollos salad this morning for me, because I went to work. But when I came home, he hasn’t touched 80% of it. It’s all just littered around his cage. He’ll take pellets from my fingers, and he was eating hay okay this morning. He’s currently running around my feet. He seems okay. But I know bunnies can hide illnesses so easily. And advice? Things I can do? I don’t wanna lose him!

Keep an eye on his droppings and eating. Does he eat much in the way of pellets usually, or is he more fresh based? If he is running around, eating hay and pooping he may just not feel like the food. Or he may be upset you didn’t give it to him, since bunnies hate changes in schedules. If it is gas or a tummy upset, tummy massages help, but usually bunnies aren’t as active or into eating hay etc if they have gas. If you are very worried, calling the vet is always a good option though.

Sometimes they just don’t feel like salad… Mine have days they gulp it down and others they don’t look at it. I find seasonal progression to some veg makes it less appetising. Just monitor his behavior and if he goes more than two days off his salad I would consider a vet check. Try some nice aromatic herbs like coriander, basil, dill or mint, maybe even some fresh oregano or thyme.

I took out the veggies and made some fresh parsley and mint, and he had a few nibbles. Still not all of it, but some. He’s eating hay okay, which is good. Maybe he’s just having an ‘off’ day and veggies aren’t that appealing?

Bunnies do graze throughout the day, so never expect one to gobble up everything in their dish first thing, even though many of our bunnies do so.
My bunny sometimes protests the same old greens after about a week by eating reluctantly over time, then gobbling something fresh later that day.
But, even though you say he’s eating his hay, do make sure it’s today that he’s doing that.
Be sure you’re not overfeeding his pellets too. Bunnies like to fill up on those, but they are not as good for them as greens. You never want more than a quarter cup daily. When they’re gone, don’t replenish that day. It makes them eat more hay after that.

Feel around tummy and jaw to be sure there’s no sensitive or sore spot, and do a tummy massage to keep the poo coming. Once you see a big session in the litter pan, he should be more interested in the greens.

He seems okay, I cleaned his litter pan and kept eagle eyes on it. Plenty of good poops. I sat him on my knee and rubbed his tummy and ran my fingers around his face, ribs and stomach. No sensitive spots, which is good? He’s drinking good, and I plopped in a piece of lettuce which was promptly gobbled up. He loves cos lettuce! he gets 1/8th of a cup of pellets in the evenings, that’s it. Don’t worry, I’m not silly enough to feed him unlimited pellets, I understand its hay that should be unlimited, then veggies, then pellets, then minimal fruit titbits. False alarm? Maybe he’s just trying to keep me on my toes!
