My rabbit got sick about 3-4 days ago. He was about to go into GI Stasis, until I managed to help him get out of it. He’s drinking, eating as well as pooping normally now, the only thing that doesn’t seem right is that he’s not happy to see me anymore. He’s not lethargic, he’ll jump on the couch and dig and walk around curiously, but he doesn’t give me kisses on my nose anymore and he come right up to the cage and chin rubs my finger or hand. What should I do?

In my best ability I take care of my rabbit on my own cause sadly I cant afford going to the vet. In the meantime I read a lot of rabbit forums and I’ve become very educated on this.  Im glad he’s better, and I hope I can get out of this finacial rut so if he gets sick again I can bring him to the vet.

How was he sick exactly? Just not eating? Or gas?

As for not paying attention to you, what were you doing to treat him? If you were doing “awful” things to him, he may be holding a grudge. If that is the case, he should come around eventually.

He is probably holding a grudge if you were having to force water or feed him. It’s seems to be a common occurrence after a bunny is done being sick they give their parent the cold shoulder. They just don’t seem to understand we are trying to help them lol

Oh no, I would never treat him horribly… He ran out of his pellets and there was no more hay, and i had to get some… but i wasnt able to make it to the pet store…so instead of him starving I gave him small quantities of carrots.  This gave him gas, and diahrrea.  He stopped eating and drinking and he just layed down all day.  I got real scared, so I automatically cut off the carrots, layed him down on a blanket and gave him light belly messages.  He managed to pass a big gas bubble of watery bunny poo and he was automatically feeling better after that.  I got him his food early that next morning (it was 11:00pm when he was sick) and he’s been eating, drinking and pooping regularly ever since.

I think he may be annoyed because Im also pregnant and Ive become seriously obsessive about him and his care, like a new mother normally would with their new baby.  Mother instincts lol I guess

I wasn’t suggesting you were treating him badly. I put the word awful in quotation marks. Like NBO said, sometimes we do things to our buns to help them and they don’t like it. So in their mind, you did some horrid thing to them. They hold a grudge for that.

I agree with LBJ and NBO. Sounds like he’s holding a bit of a “grudge”.

                  It will pass.

Thats strangeI never heard of a rabbit holding a grudge before… I went to see him this morning and he was thumping his feet.   He’s not spayed btw…but he was always a very loving rabbit before he got sick.  I hope he gets over it.

How old is he? 3+ months and hormones can be playing a part as well. For un-altered bunnies hormonal mood swings can happen overnight. So the timing in relation to being sick could just be a coincidence.

Grudges are usually over in a few days if it’s hormones it can go on indefinitely until alteration.

He’s about 2 years old, strangly not agressive like the other unsprayed males I had before.  I think I really lucked out on him…I got him when he was really young tho.  No other rabbits live with us.   Ive thought about getting him spayed, just need the money to od that first…. not as urgent asit would be for a female though thankfully.

Today’s he’s getting to his normal self, I cleaned his cage completely because I believe the bedding caused him to get an irritation…  Ill see how he feels in a couple hours than Ill go onto to examing maybe for lice, fleas, ticks, mits.
