I live in South Africa and it is my girls first winter!

They both live in my room and it has gotten down to 1 deg Celsius (roughly 35F). How do I keep them warm? Pebbles keeps trying to hide under my duvet but she tears it when she does this so ive taken it off my bed while she roams the room. What can I do to keep them warm?

You said they live inside? I am assuming you don’t mean the temperature of your house is 35 degrees so what is the indoor temperature? Rabbits are designed to withstand cold far better than heat so as long as they are kept inside I wouldn’t think it would be much of an issue. If you are worried about them you could give them a warm water bottle to lay against (just like the frozen water bottles we give them in the hot summer months) or a blanket or box of hay to snuggle in and retain their body heat a bit better.

I agree with bpash… If the indoor temperature is at a level that you can tolerate, they can as well. Cold temperature isn’t as much of a concern as drafts, so if the room is drafty, maybe look into getting some of those insulated curtains. We use those at our house year-round; in the winter, they keep the chill out, in the summer they keep the cool in.

When rabbits live outdoors, cold winter weather isn’t a problem, only really hot weather. As a teenager (a long time ago) my bunny and my sister’s bunny lived on the porch. It was regularly well below freezing for days in the winter and occasionally got all the way down to -5f (aprox -20c.) The only problem was frozen water bottles, which we solved by giving the bunny snow to eat. It was in hot summer weather that actually bothered the bunnies.

So, if it’s warm enough that you aren’t at risk of hypothermia, than it’s plenty warm enough for your bunny. Summer is when you will need to make sure your bunny is OK.

I agree with what the others are saying. But if you bunny wants something to snuggle in, why not get her a little blankie of her own?
