Hey guys. I recently had a bunny of mine pass and my husband and I decided to get another. Unfortunately ours had giardia and somewhere along the line he had ulcers in his lower bowl. After a month of fighting with him and taking him in and out of the vet, he didn’t make it. My husband and I did a lot of research and couldn’t find any rabbit adoptions near us so we decided to go with a breeder from bunny grow (company) they sell rabbit manure at the local farmers market! We went today to pick out our kit who will be ready in about a week. He is a beautiful brown holland lop. We also fell in love with an older lion head that he had. The only reason we didn’t take him was because he had mucky butt. He said it was due to a diet change and would let us know how he is doing within the next couple of days. I don’t know if it would be safe to put two rabbits together. The lion head is definitely older and also male. While the holland lop is a lot smaller in size and also male. We are planning on neutering whatever bunny we bring home. I just don’t know what to decide and I really need opinions. The breeder said he doesn’t think there will be a problem with both males being together since they are both young in age. They are about a month apart.

I would take any bunny you get from them to a vet immediately. You want to make sure they are healthy and what you are describing sounds a bit suspicious.

On to your question though. I have a Holland and a Jersey wooly, both boys. They love each other and get along great. Both are pretty easy going, plus they are neutered. If you want to bond two boys, they need to be neutered first. Otherwise they will fight.

I’m certainly no expert but from what I read, housing two unneutered makes can be a disaster. It sounds like hormones and sexual maturity can literally happen overnight and this is when two male rabbits can become aggressive. Maybe if they are housed separately until they are both neutered?? I really don’t know much about bonding as I only have one bun, but I’ve read male/female bonds are usually the most successful…assuming both rabbits are desexed. Good luck though!!

His rabbits have to be checked so the manure can be sold. So I’m not sure what to do with this situation! He said if its sick he definitely will not be selling him to me or anyone else and it was something that had started right before we got there.

Two males can bond if they’re both neutered. I’m of the opinion that gender doesn’t matters as much in bonding once everyone is altered. Personality seems to be the biggest factor in the difficulty level of bonding.

I agree with LBJ10 the situation and sounds a bit sketchy so I would definitely do a vet check up ASAP.

Any duo you get will need to be altered before put together or starting bonding, even if they are siblings or already together. The breed and sex do not matter however, bunnies speak bunny and for the most part, any duo can be bonded with knowledge, luck, and a ton of patience.

I would really reconsider buying from a bunny farm and look into local rescues, they may already have a bonded duo for you which would save you money, time and sanity
