I’m going away for 3 weeks with my Mum soon, and my Dad is going to look after the animals including my bunny. I was just making a list for what he has to do to look after the animals and I wanted to make a list of the vegetables that bunnies can’t eat just in case he wanted to give her some vegetables. What are some vegetables that he shouldn’t give her?

What is her normal diet like?

I don’t think new things should be introduced while you’re away because they could cause digestive upset. It’s recommended that new veggies be introduced one at a time and in small quantities for three days to make sure there’s no gut issues.

Generally speaking an adult rabbit should be getting everyday:
1/4-1/2 cup of plain hay based pellets per 6lbs body weight
          Unlimited Hay
2 cups of veggies (mostly leafy greens, NO ICEBURG) per 6lbs body weight

I would encourage you to leave very specific instructions with your Dad as to her feeding. He should feed her what she was getting before you left and NOT make changes to her diet as it could lead to stomach issues.

I wanted to include BB’s Bunny Sitter Guide:

I would just make up a list of vegetables you have introduced and how much of each she should have each day. Make it simple for them.

Stickerbunny – I just had a good laugh at myself. My response was so long winded when I could have just summed it up in a single sentence like you did. I’m not feeling very concise today. >.<

I made a pretty nifty bun sitter guide if you want to check it out. You can kind of use it as an example and base your care guide off mine. The bun sitters loved it and said it made caring very easy!

She’s pretty easy…I don’t have anything specific that I feed her…I just give her kitchen scraps from whatever I have been cooking…she doesn’t need to be introduced to new stuff..I just give her whatever. I was sort of just after a list of veggies that are toxic to rabbits
