I was wondering since I can’t have an air conditioner if a ceiling fan would throw off enough air to keep my bunnies cool in the summer time heat?

It doesn’t really have the same cooling effect as an air conditioner but it will blow the air and circulate it which can be helpful. There are some portable a/c units too that you can look at – not sure of the cost however.

Hehe, the ad up top is for ceiling fans now. There is one in my buns’ room. I think it helps keep the air circulating at night. We have air conditioning though. Hmm, those portable ones need to be vented somehow. What about a window air conditioner?

If you aren’t already, you could use frozen water bottles and place them in the cage (my bunny bites on the plastic so I put a sock over it and he doesn’t bother it)

Thanks I have tried the water bottle for her and she wont go near it she either pushes it or goes far away from it. I have been doing the wet towel and fan. But I thought when I am at work I hate to leave the fan plugged in so I thought a ceiling fan might help. I also tried the frozen ceramic tile she doesn’t go near that either. She lays on it if its not frozen.

Just a note, even a tile that isn’t frozen will be much cooler to lie on. And a frozen bottle (or for that matter a frozen tile) will “throw” cool around it, so it isn’t that they have to press against it for it to be reducing the temperature in the immediate area they live in. I’m sure the bottle and tile (either or better yet both) were and can continue to help.

Also a suggestion BB recently made is to wrap the frozen bottle in fleece, making it more pleasant to be near and keeping the bottle colder longer. And, there isn’t a reason to only use one bottle, two or three will make the cage cooler.

I posted in another thread about these crate fans I bought last summer:

I attach them to the bun’s condo doors and when it’s really hot, place a frozen bottle in front of it and it throws a lot of cool air. There are 2 speeds and is battery-operated. I got mine for around $10.00 each.

Thanks for the tip I might have to get one how long do the batteries last in them?

Not sure. I used the fans for a month last summer on hot days and the batteries didn’t die. Depends on which brand of batteries you buy, I guess. More expensive brands will last longer. They take the big round ones, lol, not sure what size those are. It hasn’t been hot enough here yet this season to take the fans out of storage.
